When asked the personality test question, “If Mike were a breed of dog, what kind would he be?” a friend had the perfect answer: A cat. Mike is an independent thinker who likes to size up his challenges and solve them creatively, and he applies these skills to every client assignment.
Mike joined McKinley’s Chicago office in 2008 after more than 10 years of work as a journalist and as a writer and consultant for a health care consulting firm. It was during his work as a business reporter for American Medical News, the weekly newspaper of the American Medical Association, that he developed a deeper understanding of association operations and membership challenges.
During his time with McKinley, Mike has led a number of successful projects in a variety of areas, including member needs assessments, communities of practice, dues restructuring, pricing, branding and marketing planning and execution. Mike is a member of the Association Forum of Chicagoland, where he serves as a Task Force Chair for its Editorial Working Group. In his spare time, Mike enjoys golf, running, coaching his daughter’s soccer team and using power tools to build or fix something in his house. His favorite story is he met his wife during a Chicago Cubs baseball game at Wrigley Field — and he’s a White Sox fan!
Mike holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Notre Dame, a Master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University, and an MBA from Northern Illinois University. Mike lives in the suburbs of Chicago with his wife, Jennifer, his daughters, Jillian and Olivia, and Merlin and Moose — his two cats.
