The outdoors. If we had to sum up Shelley in a few words, we would have to talk about her “second home” and the place she calls her greatest passion. Whether she’s coming back from another adventure race or sharing pictures from a remote backpacking trip, Shelley is constantly challenging herself — and finding solitude — in the great outdoors.
When we finally convince Shelley to come back inside, she turns to her second passion — associations. Shelley likes to take what she learned as a membership director at a higher education nonprofit, her experience with international graduate admissions on a college campus, and her breadth of knowledge from the CAE certification to bring creativity and strategy to what she delivers to clients. And while she is always looking for ways to broaden and deepen her areas of project focus, she is committed to delivering products and solutions that are authentic and relevant and not just deliverables to be archived on a bookshelf.
Shelley devotes much of her time to giving back to the association community that has given her a career she loves so much. She is founder of a higher education luncheon group, served as chair of the CAE Task Force, has been a five-year content leader and facilitator of ASAE’s CAE Immersion program, an instructor and speaker in a number of online courses and events, and has served on the Membership and Strategic Research Councils. She earned an MA in Liberal Studies from Georgetown University and a BA from Juniata College, where she majored in French and Education.
