Job Overview

The research associate provides research and project management support for survey and opinion research (surveys, focus groups, in-depth interviews) and data analytics (database analysis, benchmarking) engagements, including research design, implementation and analysis. The position requires strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, outstanding writing and communication skills, the ability to work independently and with a team, excellent analytical abilities and strength in managing multiple priorities.

Core Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day support for McKinley’s research and analytics projects
  • Proactively work with project leads to understand research and analytics needs
  • Coordinate and implement various stages of the research process, specifically relating to surveys, telephone interviews, focus groups, data analytics and benchmarking
  • Conduct analysis of data to identify most relevant findings and segment-specific trends
  • Contribute to project deliverables by synthesizing key findings and analysis
  • Assist with writing, proofreading, formatting and other requests as needed
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the association industry and topical areas such as membership and marketing
Survey and Opinion Research Responsibilities:
  • Design, program, proof and test electronic surveys
  • Manage the survey process by launching surveys, sending reminders, corresponding with participants and providing status updates to project leads
  • Prepare survey data for statistical analysis and reporting
  • Analyze data through various cross-tabulations and filters to understand key themes
  • Conduct analyses and create reports with key findings, charts and tables summarizing results
  • Provide qualitative research support, including logistical planning of phone interviews and focus groups and, occasionally, conducting telephone interviews
Data Analytics Responsibilities:
  • Actively participate in client meetings to assist the project team in planning and implementing data analysis methodologies
  • Formulate data requests to the client, communicating as necessary to resolve questions and ensure project team receives data necessary to meet project objectives
  • Review, clean and merge client data, checking for missing or inaccurate records
  • Conduct statistical analysis of data and create reports under the guidance of senior research or consulting staff
Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-2 years survey research or data analysis experience a plus
  • Familiarity with web-based survey software systems a plus
  • Knowledge of statistical software programs such as SPSS or MarketSight a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information into written reports
  • Excellent verbal communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at a time
  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving abilities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in teams
  • Professional demeanor and cooperative spirit
