As principal at McKinley Advisors, Greg Heidrich advises association leaders on business model innovation, revenue generation, governance and organization-wide strategy.
Greg brings more than 40 years of executive leadership experience helping associations adapt to changing markets while advancing their missions. He joined McKinley following an 18-year tenure as CEO of the Society of Actuaries (SOA), the world's largest actuarial professional society, where he nearly doubled membership, modernized the organization's credentialing model, expanded the organization globally, launched a large-scale online learning platform and established the SOA Research Institute.
Before joining SOA, Greg held executive leadership positions with the Alliance of American Insurers and the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (now APCIA), where he led finance, research, public policy development and strategy.
Throughout his career, he has helped associations strengthen governance, build research capabilities, modernize education and credentialing programs, develop future leaders and guide organizations through significant change.
Greg has also served as an association and nonprofit board director himself. From 2017 to 2020 and again from 2021 to 2025, he served as a member of the Association Forum's Board of Directors, as an officer, and ultimately as Board Chair. From 2011 to 2017, Greg served on the Board of Directors of Portico Benefit Services, including as Board Chair.
In recognition of his contributions to the association community, Greg received Association Forum's 2026 Samuel B. Shapiro Award for Chief Staff Executive Achievement, the organization's highest honor for an association CEO.
He earned an MA in economics from the University of Chicago and a BA in economics with highest honors from the University of Oklahoma, with graduate studies focused on law and economics, economic regulation and industrial organization.
Greg and his wife, Alyssa, live in Wheaton, Illinois, just outside Chicago, and spend time at their cottage on Pine Lake in southwestern Michigan. An Eagle Scout who grew up in Enid, Oklahoma, and Derby, Kansas, he has spent the past few summers guiding wilderness canoe trips through the Boundary Waters and Quetico Provincial Park for family members, a tradition that began during his college years.
